2 fires in 3 hours

On June 6th just after 3p.m. Ladder 1 was dispatched, along with several other companies to assist Oley(Co5) with a reported structure fire in the 6500 block of Boyertown Pike. Additional information stated that hay bales in the barn were smoldering and/or on fire. Police arrived first and confirmed this with heavy smoke issuing from the barn. Arriving units pulled several lines and got to work with the owner moving the bales outside where they were broken up and extinguished in a labor intensive process. Units were able to begin clearing the scene shortly before 5p.m.

About 6:15p.m. Mt. Penn was dispatched, along with several other companies to 700 Penndale Ave. for a reported structure fire. Chief 4(Mountz) arrived and called a working fire with smoke issuing from all around the building. Crews pulled several lines as another crew worked on opening the roof to vent the smoke. The fire was located and knocked down within 20 minutes although crews spent quite a while performing overhaul to ensure it was out. Crews were able to begin clearing the scene shortly after 8p.m. The cause of this fire is under investigation.
