MOVE OVER & SLOW DOWN!

Just over a year since a tow truck operator was killed on I78 in Berks County, several emergency responders were struck at the scene of a crash on the Schuylkill Expressway near Philadelphia. One firefighter succumbed to his injuries shortly after the crash while another 2 firefighters and a and PA State Trooper remain in the hospital being treated for multiple injuries.

If you see an emergency vehicle operating at a scene, it is the LAW that you move over if it is safe to do so and slow down. If you are unable to move over you must SLOW DOWN as you approach and pass the scene. Emergency responders include police, fire, EMS, tow company operators, DOT workers etc. Many are injured every year due to a driver’s negligence and many are also killed.

The members of the Mt. Penn Fire Company express our deepest sympathy and condolences to the members of the Belmont Hills Fire Company on this tragic loss. We continue to hope and pray for the speedy recovery of the other firefighters and the state trooper.
