Here we are! The summer season is over, Labor Day has come and gone and the kids are back to school. Parents get a break…sort of.
We would like to remind everybody that back to school and summer’s end mean a few things. There is more traffic on the roads, especially mornings and afternoons especially around school areas. Kids are being picked up and dropped off by buses on their routes. Pedestrian traffic, especially in Antietam, has increased as many walk to school. There have been many crashes in the past 2 weeks in Berks involving pedestrians. Pay attention when you are driving, yield to pedestrians and ALWAYS STOP for school buses with their red lights activated. Not doing so can cost you plenty:
In Pennsylvania, failing to stop for a school bus with flashing red lights and an extended stop arm is a serious offense that carries penalties, including a $250 fine, a $35 surcharge, 5 points on your license, and a mandatory 60-day license suspension if issued by a police officer. If caught by an automated camera, the penalty is a $300 fine without points or suspension.
Let’s be safe out there and not meet by accident!
