On February 7th at 5p.m. Engine 1 was dispatched on the second alarm to assist Birdsboro(Co7) and other mutual aid companies with a working structure fire in the 200 block of Schuylkill Rd. First arriving units had heavy fire and smoke showing on arrival. All personnel were working on ventilation and extinguishment until the building was evacuated due to fire conditions. This building was a maze of several apartments with a very haphazard interior layout. Shortly after interior operations resumed a third alarm was struck which brought Rescue 1 and other companies to the scene. The building was again evacuated and a new plan of attack formed using aerial master streams for approximately 10 minutes after which crews were able to re-enter and perform final extinguishment. Units began to be released about 7p.m. although many remained on scene for several more hours. This fire remains under investigation by the boro and PSP Fire Marshal.
