Mt. Penn Fire Company

Assist to RFD on brush fire

On November 21 just after 7:30p.m. Mt. Penn was dispatched for additional manpower to assist the City of Reading and numerous other companies on a working brush fire in the area behind Reading High School.  The initial arriving companies had a working brush fire on arrival which quickly spread up the mountain as well as moving north and south along the side of the mountain due to the extremely dry conditions with high wind.  Through lots of hard work by the companies the fire was eventually knocked down and contained after burning about 50 acres.  Forestry crews remained on the scene overnight to monitor conditions and prevent flare ups.  Mt. Penn crews returned shortly before 2a.m.
