Mt. Penn Fire Company

Daytime work in Douglass

Just about 12:15p.m. on February 28 Mt. Penn and several other departments were dispatched to assist Amity(Co49) on a possible structure fire at 723 Constitution Ave.  Mt. Penn was the designated RIT company.  Shortly after responding it was declared a working fire by an arriving police officer. On the arrival of R1 command immediately ordered them to stand down and proceed to assist with ventilation and fire attack.  The arriving crews had a house with heavy smoke pushing out from the eaves and fire in the right, rear corner which quickly got worse and spread to the second floor.  Multiple ventilation holes were opened in the roof as several lines were advanced into the home in order to extinguish the fire which proved difficult given the hoarder type conditions found inside.  Extra units were called to provide additional manpower for relief and the fire was placed under control within an hour with extensive overhaul to be done.  Units began to go available around 3p.m.
