Ladder 1 assist Cumru on Structure Fire

On May 2 shortly before 8p.m. Ladder 1 was dispatched as the RIT company to 200 Tranquility Lane, The Heritage at Green Hills in Cumru Township for a reported structure fire.  The initial arriving units had been dispatched for a smoke alarm activation as well as a sprinkler flow alarm.  The call was upgraded to a structure fire after additional calls were received reporting a fire in one of the apartments on the third floor.  It would eventually go to 2 alarms to bring extra manpower to the scene.  The fire was contained and extinguished by the sprinkler system so command had all crews put to work on secondary searches and ventilation as well as securing the sprinklers.  Multiple fans had to be used to clear the smoke from this large structure.  One resident was flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital by MedEvac 1 after suffering burns.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation.  Ladder 1 was able to clear shortly after 10:30p.m.
