Mt. Penn Fire Company

Lower Alsace Structure Fire

On March 15 shortly before 5p.m. Mt. Penn was dispatched, along with several other companies to 2802 Filbert Ave. for a possible structure fire, reported toaster on fire. Arriving units quickly called a working fire in the kitchen area. Initially one line was used to knock down the bulk of the fire by 5p.m. but as crews accessed the second floor they reported high heat and smoke so a second line was pulled as the roof was vented to relieve the heat and smoke. Crews then worked for almost another 2 hours making sure the fire was extinguished and there was no further extension to the rest of the home. They were finally able to begin clearing the scene shortly before 7p.m. The Red Cross was notified to assist the residents with temporary housing. This fire is under investigation by the PA State Police Fire Marshal.
