Mt. Penn Fire Company

Oley Structure Fire

On September 25th at 1:04a.m. Mt. Penn was dispatched, along with several other companies, for a reported structure fire at 89 Moravian School Rd. in Oley Township. Central Berks Police arrived first and confirmed a large amount of smoke from the structure but unsure exactly what the source was. Arriving fire units confirmed the report and found heavy fire in the rear of the residence which was quickly spreading. Ladder 1 went to the scene while Engine 1 went to establish a fill site near the scene. That fill site wasn’t workable so E1 relocated to the Oley Middle School and established one there using a nearby hydrant.

Other arriving units dispatched for manpower and water used several lines to extinguish the fire which had spread throughout the interior of the home. Crews found very cluttered conditions inside as they knocked the fire down. The incident was placed under control with extensive overhaul at 2:24a.m. and units were able to begin clearing shortly before 5a.m. The exact cause of this fire remains under investigation.
