Structure fire in Amity

mtpennlogo

On March 16th, just after 8p.m. Mt. Penn was dispatched as the RIT company to assist Monocacy (Co6) and Amity (Co49) on a reported structure fire at 208 Battenkill Dr. in the Amity Gardens area of the township.   Additional information indicated it was a fire in a garage that was attached to the house and there was possibly a person trapped.  First arriving crews found a working fire in the garage with possible extension to the house and 1 individual suffering from burns and smoke inhalation.  The person was turned over to EMS for treatment.

Crews from Mt. Penn were immediately relieved of their RIT assignment by command and a second RIT company was called.  Some of the crew were sent to the second floor for ventilation and to check for extension while others stretched a second line into the building.  Utilities were also secured at this time.  Fortunately the fire did not extend past the garage area although the house suffered heavy smoke damage throughout.  Crews were able to return to station shortly before 10p.m.  The exact cause of this fire remains under investigation.
