Mt. Penn Fire Company

Summer day sizzling!

On June 22 at 5p.m. E1 was dispatched along with Exeter (Co25) to the rear of 2980 St. Lawrence Ave. in St. Lawrence for a trash fire near a pole.  Arriving units found a couch and other debris on fire which was quickly knocked down with a single line.  Units were able to clear less than 20 minutes later.

Just after 8p.m. L1 was dispatched to assist Oley (Co5) and several other companies on a reported structure fire at 351 Oysterdale Rd. in Pike Twp. Once the first officer arrived it was determined to be a large bonfire and the ladder was cancelled in order to head to Birdsboro.

L1 was dispatched to assist Birdsboro (Co7) and numerous other companies to 119 N. Furnace St. for a reported structure fire.  Chief 7 arrived within a few minutes and confirmed a working fire.  A second alarm was quickly struck followed by the 3rd alarm about 10 minutes later.  There was heavy fire and smoke in the rear which extended horizontally to the attached structures on either side.  The older style construction combined with numerous renovations over the years as well as the heat and humidity made this an extremely difficult fire to locate and bring under control.  Companies responded from Berks, Chester and Montgomery county and worked until after midnight to extinguish this fire.  The exact cause is under investigation by the Fire Marshal but is believed to be accidental.
