Although the emergency calls have settled down since earlier in the week, it doesn’t mean we haven’t been busy.
Thursday and Friday saw the crew visit the local schools to spread the fire prevention week message “Every second counts, plan 2 ways out.” In addition to this years’ message the crews worked with the kids on when to call 911 as well as stop, drop and roll. Remember, every week can be fire prevention week!
Saturday began the Berks Fire H.O.T. weekend instructed by the great team from On Scene Training with the focus this year being on Rapid Intervention practices. Saturday was spent in the classroom being instructed and having discussions about Rapid Intervention Teams, their use and deployment as well as what it involves to be the officer in charge of a team. Sunday was spent at the Berks Fire Training Site putting the classroom instruction into practice during live fire, real world scenarios. For those that didn’t attend the training this year there was the Antietam Valley Community Partnership 5K road race. The crew from Mt. Penn joined with Lower Alsace (Co4) to provide traffic control assistance as the race crossed several of our busier roadways on its course from the pool parking lot, through Pennside and Mt. Penn and finally back to the pool lot. Great job to all the runners and walkers this year! Results will be available by Monday at Pretzel City Sports: https://www.pretzelcitysports.com/race-results/2017-road-race-results/
