Mt. Penn Fire Company

West Reading Structure Fire

On March 11 just after 3a.m. Mt. Penn was dispatched as an additional RIT company on the 2nd alarm to the 600 block of Penn Avenue in West Reading at Go Fish.  The originally dispatched units had encountered heavy smoke in the block and a working fire towards the rear of the structure on their arrival at this large building that also houses the Baldwin Brass showroom.  While enroute command struck a 3rd alarm.  A few personnel were detailed to assist with ventilation and checking for extension on the second floor while the remainder stood by as RIT.  The fire was placed under control and units began to clear around 4a.m.  Mt. Penn was able to return to station just before 5a.m.  The cause of this fire is believed to be accidental but remains under further investigation.
