2nd Alarm assist to Reading City at Prizer-Painter

MtPennRFD

On April 22 at 2:50p.m. Ladder 1 was dispatched with several other county companies on the second alarm to Box 4-02, 600 Arlington St. at Prizer-Painter Stove works for a structure fire.  When the A platoon crews arrived to this reported oven fire they found heavy fire and smoke showing from the roof.  Shortly after their arrival the roof began to collapse and all personnel went to defensive operations only per Car 1 (Stoudt).  Ladder 1 was set up for master stream operations and began this once they received a water supply.   A 3rd alarm was struck approximately 40 minutes after the initial dispatch.  At one point, with all of the master streams in service, water supply became a concern but was taken care of quickly.  The fire was placed under control about 5:15p.m. at which time L1 was placed available.  This location was also the scene of another multi-alarm fire on April 21, 1984.  The fire remains under investigation by the Fire Marshal.

During this call the engine and rescue were sent with other city and county units to a possible structure fire at 123 S. 8th St. but the arriving city crew quickly confirmed it was food on the stove and under control.  The assignment was recalled before arriving.
