On October 29th, shortly before 8p.m. Mt. Penn was dispatched, along with several mutual aid companies to Peach Lane in Alsace Township for a possible structure fire with the additional of a burn pit out of control and near a large shed. First arriving units found an approximately 20x40ft area at the rear of a property on Old State Rd. burning and several lines were quickly pulled due to the amount of fire. Deputy 5(Kline) took command until other units arrived. As the fire was knocked down it was found that a smoldering and unattended burn barrel had ignited various materials in what was a backyard trash dump that included tires, old appliances, scrap wood etc. The fire was placed under control at 8:03p.m. with extensive overhaul required. Crews spent the next 45 minutes pulling everything apart and wetting things down to prevent a rekindle. Units were able to clear shortly before 9p.m.
