Mt. Penn Fire Company

Alsace Township Crash

On January 6 just after 11a.m. Mt. Penn was dispatched along with Lower Alsace(Co4), Muhlenberg(Co66) and Ruscombmanor(Co34) to the 200 block of Antietam Rd. for a vehicle crash with injuries. Additional info reported a dump truck into the woods with the driver injured. Arriving units found the scene as described with a loaded tri-axle dump truck about 20 feet off the road & the driver self extricated. He was quickly taken by EMS to the hospital for evaluation. Fire police were requested as well as PennDot for road closures and debris clean up. Fortunately no fuel or other fluids were leaking but the process to remove the truck took several hours after Deputy 1(Eisenhard) released the apparatus. 3 heavy duty truck from Berks-Mont Towing & V&M towing worked together to clear the area around the truck and finally remove it from the trees, mud and brush it was heavily tangled in. PennDot cleared the debris, the road was opened and all units cleared by 3:45p.m.
