Assist to Monocacy on Structure Fire

On March 4th just before 11p.m. Mt. Penn was dispatched as the RIT company, along with Amity (Co’s 6 & 49), Birdsboro (Co7) and Exeter (Co25) for a reported structure fire at 54 Monocacy Creek Rd. in Amity Twp.  The first arriving units confirmed a working fire in an old farmhouse under renovation and requested additional tankers which came from Earl (Co19), Gibralter (Co23), Geigertown (Co24) and units from Montgomery County.  All units were directed to enter off of Pennsylvania Ave. by the Monocacy fire station as this provided the only easy access to the scene.  On the arrival of Rescue 1 command immediately took several of the crew to assist with fire attack, leaving the rest to stand by as RIT in the event of an emergency.  The fire was contained in less than an hour despite the building being evacuated twice due to concerns for its structural integrity.  Final extinguishment took another 2 hours in frigid temperatures that were hovering around 14 degrees during the incident.  The cause remains under investigation.
