Sunday began shortly before 12:30p.m. when Mt. Penn was dispatched for the RIT company to assist Exeter Twp. (Co25) at 6302 Perkiomen Ave. for a working structure fire. First arriving crews found a house well involved with access being made down a long dirt lane off of Route 422. The Rescue 1 crew assisted with moving equipment back to the scene and then stood by until released just before 2:30p.m. The cause of this fire remains under investigation and was the second fire Mt. Penn assisted with in 12 hours but…………Sunday wasn’t over just yet!
Just after 3:30p.m. Mt. Penn was dispatched, along with Birdsboro (Co7) and Temple (Co11 filling in for Co25) to assist Lower Alsace (Co4) for a confirmed working structure fire at 2802 Filbert Ave. with fire in the garage. Engine 1 arrived and got the hydrant only 200ft away. 3 lines were pulled by the arriving crews who were able to get the fire under control within 20 minutes. There was some extension to a room above the garage area as well as the porch roof and quite a bit of overhaul had to be completed to be sure the fire was out.
