Mt. Penn Fire Company

Birdsboro Bean Roast

On May 28th, just before 11:30a.m. Ladder 1 was dispatched, along with several other companies, to assist Birdsboro(Co7) on a reported structure fire at Reading Coffee Company at 316 W. Main St. First arriving units had a light smoke condition and the building already evacuated. A dry line was pulled as a precaution. On further investigation active fire was found in the exhaust ductwork of a coffee roasting machine. As the line was being charged, additional crews inside and outside began to dismantle the ductwork so the fire could be extinguished. It was found that a large amount of residue from the coffee roasting process had accumulated and finally ignited but all of the fire was contained to the ductwork with no extension to the building or roasting machine. Units were able to clear the scene shortly after 12p.m.
