Crews called to assist Reading Fire on 3 Alarm Fatal Fire

On January 14, 2015 @ 2119 the City of Reading Fire Department responds to a structure fire in the 700 block of Chestnut St.  City crews encountered a large volume of fire on the 1st and 2nd floors of the dwelling with a report of an occupant unaccounted for.

At 2127 Reading Deputy Chief Mogel requested a 2nd alarm due to deteriorating conditions and extension into the adjoining structures.  Engine 1 responded on 2nd alarm.  At 2203 Reading Fire Chief Stoudt requested a 3rd alarm for additional personnel.  Ladder 1 responded on 3rd alarm.

In the original fire building a fire victim was found on the 3rd floor deceased.  Our crews cleared the scene without injuries.

Penn Fire Company is to protect the lives and property of the people of Mt Penn from fires, natural disasters, and hazardous materials incidents; to save lives by providing Rescue services; to prevent fires through prevention and education programs; and to provide a 100% Volunteer work environment that values health, wellness and cultural diversity and is free of harassment and discrimination.
