E1 assists City of Reading on 2nd alarm

MtPennRFD

On August 22 just after 4a.m. E1 was dispatched on the second alarm for Box 6-02 at 102 Neversink St. on the city’s southwest side.  Responding crews from the city had a large commercial building as well as several vehicles well involved on their arrival less than 10 minutes earlier.  Water supply from hydrants was an immediate issue due to numerous master streams in service and initially E1 was going to provide extra supply lines to the city engines but this turned out to be unnecessary.  The crew was then detailed to check exposures for extension after which they assisted with containing and knocking down visible fire.  While the engine crew was on the scene the rest of Co1, as well as numerous other county companies, were placed on stand-by at their stations to handle other city incidents.  All county units were released just before 7a.m.  This fire remains under investigation by the City of Reading police as well as the Fire Marshal’s office.
