Exeter Double Shot

On April 27 shortly before 1a.m. Ladder 1 was dispatched with several other companies to assist Co 25(Exeter) at the Applebees restaurant for a structure fire. Initially the call was dispatched as an automatic fire alarm but the police confirmed a working fire on arrival with flames from the roof and had the assignment upgraded. Crews assisted with forcible entry, advancing lines and ventilation. A fire was found in the ductwork over the grill and extending to the roof vent. The fire was quickly knocked down but it took quite a while to open and remove the ducts to ensure the fire was extinguished. Crews began clearing the scene shortly after 1:30a.m.

That wasn’t quite it. Shortly before 7:30a.m. Rescue 1 was dispatched along with several other companies to assist Exeter at Total Recycling 1270 Lincoln Rd. for a reported structure fire. Arriving units found a deep seated fire that was contained in a very large compacter/sorter machine used in the recycling industry. One handline was pulled to keep things contained and then Quint 6 was directed into the building and supplied with water on their arrival. Their elevated master stream was used to extinguish the fire before the facility was turned back over to management. Units began clearing by 8:15a.m.
