Fire Prevention Week Part 2

mtpennlogo

Mt. Penn wrapped up Fire Prevention Week activities with visits to some local schools on Thursday and Friday mornings.  The kids were refreshed on some prior fire prevention themes such as stop, drop and roll as well as what do to in an emergency such as evacuating the premises and calling 911.  This year’s theme of “Don’t wait, check the date” was also emphasized so that they can go home and help their parents check the dates on smoke detectors to be sure they are less than 10 years old.  During the class sessions students were also shown the protective gear firefighters wear and got to watch truck crew members put the gear on, including SCBA, in order to actually see and hear what the well dressed firefighter would be wearing if they were coming into their homes during an emergency.  After the “school time” everybody was allowed outside to see, not only an actual fire truck, but all the equipment it carries and ask any questions they had.  Thank you to St. Catherines, Antietam Academy and Mt. Penn Primary Center for having us visit!
