Mt. Penn Fire Company

Friday Night Fire

On July 28th shortly after 10p.m. on this warm and humid night, Mt. Penn was dispatched along with several other companies to assist Blandon(Co12) with a reported structure fire at 6 Irish Mountain Rd. in Alsace Township. Arriving units had heavy fire and smoke showing and reported all occupants safely evacuated. Several lines were pulled and the bulk of the fire was knocked down within 10 minutes of arrival. Water had to be supplied by tanker shuttle since there are no fire hydrants nearby. Crews spent the next 2 hours performing final extinguishment and overhaul, finally being able to begin returning to their stations by 12:30a.m. One resident was taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. All residents are being assisted by the Berks County Red Cross. Unfortunately, the home appears to be a total loss. hThe exact cause of this fire remains under investigation by the Fire Marshall.
