Mt. Penn Fire Company

L1 assists Amity

On November 8 at 10p.m. L1 was dispatched as the RIT company to assist Amity Twp(Co 49 & 6) with a possible structure fire at Amity Manor, 1131 W. Ben Franklin Highway (Route 422).  Those companies had originally been sent for a fire alarm and had arrived to find a smoke condition in the building which then upgraded the assignment bringing Birdsboro (Co 7), Boyertown (Co 95), Exeter (Co 25), Montgomery County Co 57 and several more EMS units.  The problem was traced to a malfunctioning heating/cooling wall unit which was shut down as crews checked for extension to the walls around the unit.  The residents were evacuated to an unaffected area of the building.  Companies remained on the scene for approximately 45 minutes before returning to station.
