Mt. Penn Crash

MtPennLA

On August 26 just after 12 noon, Mt. Penn and Lower Alsace (Co4) were dispatched to the 2700 block of Perkiomen Ave. in Mt. Penn for a vehicle crash with injuries.  Arriving crews found a two car crash with a pole sheared off.  One vehicle with a suspected DUI driver struck the rear of a vehicle being operated by an off duty Central Berks Regional PD officer and then struck the pole causing it to break off just above the sidewalk.  The officer was not injured, however the other driver and the 3 young children in the car with her were all taken to the hospital for examination.  There were also several contractors in the same block installing new gas lines but all escaped injury.  The crash remains under further investigation by the police who are waiting for lab results for the female driver.  Units were able to clear shortly before 1p.m.
