Mt. Penn Fire Company

Mt. Penn Mess

On June 11th just after 6p.m. Mt. Penn was dispatched along with Lower Alsace(Co 4) & EMS to the 2700 block of Perkiomen Ave for a vehicle crash with a diesel fuel spill. Police were already on location as they had come across this while on patrol. Arriving units confirmed the dispatch information & also a large amount of diesel across both lanes & running towards a storm drain plus several large branches down along with some cable & phone lines. Crews quickly stopped the flowing diesel & applied oil dry. Attempts to plug the fuel tank were not successful due to severe damage. Penndot & utilities were notified as was the vehicle owner who was contacting an environmental clean up company. Crews cleared the downed branches & stood by until the tow company removed the truck. All units were able to clear shortly before 8p.m. The crash is under investigation by Central Berks Police.
