Mt. Penn Structure Fire

We had a busy afternoon and early evening at Station 1. Several calls were taken care of including a medical assist and some trees on wires.

However, at 5:22p.m. Mt. Penn was dispatched along with Lower Alsace, Oley, Reading City, Birdsboro and Exeter to the 2500 block of Grant St. for a reported stove fire with flames visible. Engine 1 arrived along with Deputy 1(Eisenhard) and reported nothing showing from the street and all occupants outside. That quickly changed as further investigation found a fire next to the stove and quickly extending to the cabinets and other combustibles in the rear of the 1st floor. One line was quickly pulled as other crews began ventilation and checking adjoining homes for extension as well as securing utilities. Command was passed to Captain 1(Lombardo) as the entire engine crew was busy with extinguishment. The fire was reported under control with overhaul at 5:36p.m. No extension was found, and crews were able to clear the scene shortly after 6p.m. It appears that there were other materials that were too close to the stove which was in use at the time. A big thank you to all of our mutual aid companies who gave us a hand today!
