Mt. Penn Fire Company

Reading City 2nd Alarmer

On November 13, about 8:15a.m. Mt. Penn, Lower Alsace(Co4) and Exeter(Co25) were dispatched on the second alarm to assist the City of Reading at 1323 Spruce St. for a working structure fire with possible entrapment. First arriving city units had a rowhome with heavy smoke and fire showing with extension to the homes on either side. The occupant was confirmed out but had suffered injuries which sent them to the hospital immediately in the care of EMS. A 3rd alarm was eventually struck to bring more manpower to the scene. Crews worked for several hours to bring the fire under control and extensive overhaul was needed to ensure all fire was extinguished. County units were able to begin clearing shortly before 11a.m. The fire building and adjoining homes suffered extensive damage which displaced several residents. The cause of this fire remains under investigation.
