Reported kitchen fire in Mt. Penn

On February 6 shortly before 6p.m. Mt. Penn was dispatched along with Lower Alsace (Co4), Exeter (Co25), Birdsboro (Co7), Oley (Co5) and the City of Reading to 2048 Fairview Ave. for a reported structure fire with possible entrapment.  On arrival Deputy 1 (Wertz) reported heavy smoke and made it a working incident with everybody out of the house.  Upon further investigation it was discovered to be a fire involving various items on top of the stove which was knocked down with a dry chemical extinguisher.  There was no extension but crews spent the next 20 minutes venting the smoke and checking for extension with none found.  A burner on the stove was accidentally turned on which ignited the items causing smoke damage to the kitchen area.  Crews were able to clear shortly before 6:30p.m.
