Mt. Penn Fire Company

Shillington 2nd Alarm

On October 9 just after 6p.m. Mt. Penn was dispatched second alarm RIT for a working structure fire with entrapment at 38 Philadelphia Ave. in Shillington Boro. Units dispatched on the initial alarm had a working fire with confirmed entrapment and heavy fire and smoke conditions throughout the home on their arrival.

When Ladder 1 arrived their crew was staged as RIT at the front of the building. Once the second RIT company arrived, (Co47-Womelsdorf), they were assigned to the front or A side and the L1 crew was moved to the rear of the structure or C side. Fire was knocked down using multiple lines. Extensive overhaul was required due to renovations and the balloon-frame construction of this house as fire continued to show itself in several locations well after arrival. Unfortunately one victim was found deceased on the second floor. This fire remains under investigation by the Shillington Police and the PA State Police Fire Marshal.
