Early on September 22 Mt. Penn, along with Lower Alsace (Co4) was dispatched to the 2200 block of Perkiomen Ave. in the boro for a vehicle crash.  Shortly before this Central Berks Police had become aware of a suspicious vehicle in the Lower Alsace area and were in the process of locating it for further investigation.  The vehicle had attempted to turn westbound on Howard Blvd towards the city but missed the turn and crossed over to the eastbound side of Perkiomen Ave, jumping the curb and striking a fire hydrant, several trash cans, a retaining wall and a parked car.  The driver fled the scene.  Crews controlled the fluids down and stood by until the tow company removed the vehicle.  Central Berks Police are continuing the investigation.
