Mt. Penn Fire Company

2nd Alarm in Laureldale

On August 13 just after 11p.m. R1 was dispatched to cover R10 on the structure fire assignment for a reported deck on fire at 1511 Queen St. in Laureldale Boro.  At just about the same time Chief 13 struck the second alarm which sent E1, along with several other companies, to the scene.  The first arriving crews from Laureldale (Co13), Muhlenberg (Co’s 10 & 11), Spring Twp (Co85) and City of Reading (E9, L3) had fire showing from several windows near the back of the structure.  Fortunately the occupants were able to safely evacuate and were being assisted by the Red Cross.  Fire and smoke spread throughout the structure quickly but crews were able to get the majority of the fire knocked down by 11:20p.m. with extensive overhaul being required.  The rescue was able to return just before 1:30a.m. and the engine returned just before 2:30a.m.  The fire has been determined to be accidental by the Fire Marshal.
