Assist to Oley on structure fire with entrapment

StrucutreFire

On April 9th just before 1:30a.m. Mt. Penn was dispatched as RIT to assist Oley (Co5) on a structure fire with reported entrapment at 653 Main St. in the Village of Oley.  The first arriving units found a working fire on the second floor of the residence and confirmed that one person was trapped.  Chief 5 (Kline) struck a second alarm as well as requesting tankers and additional EMS units to the scene.  Initially Mt. Penn crews placed additional ground ladders on all sides as part of the RIT function.  Once the second RIT company arrived Chief Kline put us to work placing more ladders, assisting in the removal of the victim and working in the second floor and attic spaces to locate and extinguish any hidden fire.  Two firefighters and a police officer were also taken to the hospital for injuries sustained in trying to rescue the occupant who, unfortunately succumbed to injuries an hour later at Reading Hospital.  The fire remains under investigation by the State Police Fire Marshal.
