Mt. Penn Fire Company

Construction Chaos!

If you didn’t notice, road construction season is HERE!  In the past week signs have magically sprouted just about everywhere in Mt. Penn as projects get underway.  In addition to the multitude of detours around the boro, there are other detours in place such as the Harvey Ave. bridge, Gibraltar Rd. bridge and starting next week, the Shelbourne Rd. bridge. Some of the signs may be confusing, even to longtime residents but it is important they be followed.

As of yesterday the intersection of Carsonia Ave. & Endlich Ave. is now a 4 way stop as temporary signs have been posted.  In the past 3 days we have already been to one minor crash near that intersection and one that was more serious on Fairview Ave. Our goal, as well as that of Central Berks Police, is to not have anymore.  It sounds impossible but if we all take our time and PAY ATTENTION problems can be avoided.  Please follow the posted signs, come to a complete stop at intersections and try leaving a few minutes early so you don’t have to rush your trip.  Be ALERT & AWARE for construction workers, emergency responders and their equipment as well as pedestrians and the kids enjoying their summer vacation.  This project goes until October of 2019.
