On January 16th, shortly after 12:30a.m. Mt. Penn was dispatched as RIT, along with several other mutual aid companies to assist Birdsboro(Co7) with a reported barn fire on Sycamore Rd. in Union Township. A responding EMS unit reported a working fire from over a mile away. First arriving fire units found a 40x60ft barn well involved and already collapsing. There were also exposure issues with large embers falling on the nearby residence as well as into the woods. All personnel were immediately put to work establishing water supply, containing the fire and preventing further extension. Additional companies were dispatched to assist. The fire was placed under control within an hour with extensive overhaul required. Mt. Penn was able to clear the scene shortly before 2:30a.m.
