Mt. Penn Fire Company

Exeter Structure Fire

On March 15 just before 8:30a.m. Mt. Penn was dispatched along with Lower Alsace (Co4) and a Reading City engine to 46 W 33rd St (Exeter Station 2) for a reported structure fire.  Additional info gave it as behind their station on the hill.  The address was corrected to 98 W. Neversink Rd. by arriving crews who had a working residential fire up a long, steep and unplowed driveway. Command quickly requested the next alarm for manpower.  A 3″ supply line was manually stretched up the hill to the 2 1/2 story home to provide water to smaller handlines in order to attack the fire which had spread  from the garage and extended to the roof and second floor of the home.  Fortunately the occupants were able to escape, after being unable to locate the keys to operate the inside deadbolt locks, by going out a second floor window and sliding down a lower roof to the yard.  Crews worked for several hours in 20 degree temperatures and windy snow showers to extinguish the fire.  The house may be a total loss and the cause remains under investigation by the Fire Marshal.
