Mt. Penn Fire Company

Keeping Busy

The weather is improving and it looks like Spring is here to stay. Crews all around the county have kept busy since Friday with all types of calls and Mt. Penn is no exception. We have been on 5 calls Friday and Saturday including fire alarms, structure fires and vehicle crashes.

On April 19th at 6:15p.m. Rescue 1 was dispatched to 305 Elnore Ave. in Muhlenberg Twp. to assist on a working structure fire. The first arriving units had heavy fire and smoke from the garage which was extending into the house. Access was difficult due to very cluttered conditions inside. Several lines were pulled as other crews vented the roof and did searches. The R1 crew joined the manpower pool on arrival and assisted with overhaul to ensure the fire was out. Units began clearing shortly after 8p.m. This fire is under investigation.

On April 20th, just after 5p.m. Mt. Penn was dispatched, along with Oley(Co5) and Lower Alsace(Co4) to Friedensburg & Old State Rd. for a reported vehicle crash with fire. Chief 5(Kline) arrived first and reported a vehicle crash in the upper lot at Specialty Design(2000 Friedensburg Rd) but no fire and one patient for EMS. The patient was evaluated until EMS arrived to transport to the hospital. Crews contained spilled fluids in the parking lot and stood by until the tow company arrived and removed the vehicle from its position on the parking lot wall. All units were cleared by 6:15p.m. This crash is under investigation by the PA State Police Reading.
