On June 29 just after 10am Utility 1 was dispatched to respond with the County spill trailer to Route 422 West & Daniel Boone Rd in Exeter Township to assist Company 25 on a vehicle crash with a large fuel leak. The Exeter crews had arrived earlier and extricated the driver of a dump truck after he had struck the rear of a tractor trailer, traffic light equipment and a phone pole which caused power and traffic problems in the area for most of the day. The fuel tank on his truck had ruptured and was leaking large amounts of diesel fuel which was slowed by applying leak putty until the fuel could be transferred to a containment drum. Large amounts of oil dry were also put down to control the fluids on the roadway and spill pads set at the catch basins and under the truck to contain any remaining fuel until the truck was removed by V&M towing. Mt. Penn crews cleared in just over an hour while Exeter crews along with several utility crews remained on scene. This crash remains under investigation by the Exeter Township Police.
