Working fire in Birdsboro

On January 14, just before 2:30a.m. Ladder 1 was dispatched along with Exeter (Co25), Amity (Co’s 6 & 49) and Gibralter (Co23) to 412 Lincoln Ave. to assist Birdsboro (Co7) for a reported structure fire.  A working fire in the vacant house was quickly confirmed by the police.  Chief 7 (Kulp) immediately placed all incoming personnel in service in order to protect the adjacent homes from the radiant heat and large embers that were falling.  An interior attack was started but quickly stopped when the roof and stairs gave way in just a few minutes.  A second alarm brought additional units from Berks, Chester and Montgomery counties to the scene and to cover empty stations.  The fire was under control within an hour although units remained on the scene for several hours doing final extinguishment and overhaul.  Ladder 1 returned shortly before 6a.m.  The fire remains under investigation.
