Mt. Penn Fire Company

Staying busy

May is off to a quick start for Mt. Penn. We have already responded to 9 calls this month. It has been the usual mix of things, brush fire, medical assist, CO alarm, RIT, wires down. We assisted Reading City just before 5:30p.m. May 3rd on a 2nd alarm structure fire in the 200 block of S. 9th St. The first arriving city units had heavy fire and smoke from the building with extension to the home next door. Fortunately all occupants were able to escape. The building suffered a partial wall collapse and the warm & humid conditions required extra manpower for final extinguishment and overhaul. The fire marshal continues to investigate.

Shortly after 3a.m. on May 4th we were dispatched to a rollover crash on Blankenbiller Rd in Alsace Township. The occupants fled and were unable to be located after a search of the area. Units stood by until the vehicle was up righted and removed by the tow company. The PA State Police-Reading continue their investigation.
